Some professional sports stars are indifferent to memorabilia. Pete Vuckovich kept his Cy Young Award under a bed. Others donate or consign items to auction as soon as they get them—or not long after their careers end, like Brett Favre is doing right now.
Others.though, treasure their career momentoes and some, like Dale Earnhardt Jr., are collectors at heart. He’s not only saved a huge number of items from his owner career, but also collected items from others who make their living in sports.
The recently married NASCAR driver has a big home in North Carolina and recently gave ESPN’s Marty Smith a tour of the man cave where much of his career memorabilia is displayed prominently. He’s also got a pretty impressive collection of signed college football helmets. Oh, there’s plenty more inside, we’re sure, but a quick glimpse of the room is pretty impressive.
