The Arizona Diamondbacks have opened an online auction for special black tribute jerseys worn during this weekend’s series vs. the Colorado Rockies. The jerseys carry a number 19 patch and were worn Friday, Saturday and Sunday in honor of the 19 firefighters from Prescott, AZ who died fighting a large wildfire last week.
Proceeds benefit the families of the victims of the fire which took place near Yarnell, about 85 miles from Phoenix.
Thus far, Paul Goldschmidt’s jersey carries the highest bid at $3,564.
Pitcher Brad Ziegler, who is a collector, told MLB.com, “We want them to know we’re thinking of them. It’s unfortunate we have to do this, but at least this is a way we can show our support because those that were taken were heroes.”
Bidding ends Sunday, July 14.
