Collector Sam Dodero went to a garage sale last month. A conversation with the home owner led to a find he never expected.
While there were no baseball cards among the items at the Midwestern house, he asked about cards and the homeowner went inside and came back out with something that had been in the family for about 40 years.
It’s a 1914 Cracker Jack Chief Bender–not exactly something you see at your average yard sale. The 1914 issue was available only in boxes of the sweet treat and other than some stains, it’s in exceptionally nice shape.
The card was had passed down through the generations but the owner was now ready to give it up for a fair price.
Sam says he’s keeping the card.

PSA alone has now graded 621,602 cards from the 2019-20 Panini Prizm Basketball release.

Here’s a list of the players whose cards were graded the most by PSA in August, according to Gem Rate. Numbers are approximate:
- Michael Jordan 33,000
- Kobe Bryant 12,500
- LeBron James 10,300
- Shaquille O’Neal 8,000
- Tom Brady 7,200
About 83 percent of the cards graded last month date to the 1990s-present.
Nearly 52 percent of the submitted cards from the current decade graded Gem Mint 10.
The number of cards from 1970 and earlier graded by PSA doubled from July to August.
PSA graded nearly 800,000 cards in all. SGC saw the biggest percentage increase of cards graded from month to month (over 75,000).
