His cards are among the hottest in the hobby and now there’s a new one to chase—with a charitable twist. The 2016 Carlos Correa ‘Restless for a Cause’ card was produced by Topps and shown off at a news conference last week at which the 21-year-old Puerto Rican star revealed his plans to help underprivileged kids have a place to sleep.
“Restless for a Cause” ties Correa’s hit total to a campaign to purchase beds for Houston area kids who don’t have one of their own.
Correa signed an endorsement deal with Topps just after his 2015 arrival in the big leagues and is supporting his efforts. The front of the card is a different image than the one on his standard Topps card while the back contains information on the fundraising program.
Pledge $1 for every hit Correa makes this season and the card is yours. Anyone willing to pledge $2 for every hit receives the card as well as a “Restless for a Cause” T-shirt. For a $20 pledge for each hit, participants receive an autographed special edition Marucci bat and baseball card as well as the other perks, plus the opportunity for a meet-and-greet with Correa.
All pledges are tax-deductible, of course.
Correa’s goal is to buy 2,000 beds for youngsters and he’ll be contributing to the cause himself.
Despite his youth, Correa is already earning high marks for his community efforts.
“As I sit here, I am just proud of him,” said Jeff Bagwell. “ I cannot think of any better person that I’m more proud of to be a representative of the Astros than Carlos.”
