A second half slump not withstanding, there’s no doubt when the story of the 2017 baseball season is written that Aaron Judge will be prominently mentioned. His first full season in the big leagues revealed an explosive power that caused fans to stop what they were doing whenever he came to the plate.
Judge has also had a huge impact on the 2017 baseball card market with collectors clamoring for any product that might have his cards inside.
The 25-year-old Californian’s most sought after cards were the autographed versions of his 2013 Bowman Chrome issue. In its September 3 Sunday Night Sports Collectibles online catalog, Heritage Auctions is offering one of the biggest catches of the Judge market: a Black Wave Refractor (# to 50) rated BGS 10 (Pristine) for both the card and autograph. Each subgrade of the card is a 10 except the corners, which rate 9.5.
The card carries a pre-sale estimate of over $8,000, but could go higher. Since late May, thirteen 2013 Judge Bowman cards have sold for $10,000 or more.
As of Thursday, Judge had 37 homers on the season, 12 shy of the MLB record set by Mark McGwire with the Oakland A’s in 1987.
