If you watched Butler University’s incredible run to the NCAA Championship game a couple of years ago, you might have seen him.
Bobby Fong was a popular guy at the small Indiana school that almost pulled a Hoosiers at the Final Four. Then the president of Butler, Fong loved every minute of the Bulldogs’ big run. Since then, he’s moved on to Ursinus College in Pennsylvania but one thing hasn’t changed: his love of collecting baseball cards.
He’s closing in on a complete run of Topps sets from the early 1950s to the present.
Fong grew up in San Francisco as the son of Chinese immigrants and baseball is what helped assimilate him into the daily life of an American boy.
It all started with a pack of 1958 Topps, according to this story in The Reporter.
