You’ll find no more dedicated baseball fans and collectors than in the Midwest. Guys who collected baseball cards and never stopped. Folks who mark the passage of each year by remembering how many trips they made to major and minor league ballparks. It’s unusual for someone to grow up within 150 miles of St. Louis and not have memories virtually identical in nature to someone who grew up equidistant from Chicago or Detroit.
He’s a Cardinal fan since birth, a guy who remembers going to watch Stan The Man at Sportsman’s Park. His collection includes vintage baseball cards and thousands of autographs.
The local paper recently paid him a visit, getting a look at the collection and hearing the stories of how he obtained some of those autographs. Leefer’s collection includes dozens of signatures he continues to add to a special Cardinals’ history book written by the legendary sportswriter Bob Broeg.
