One football coach doesn’t have to look far for motivation. His place is filled with game programs featuring famous coaches in their playing days.
Greenwood, Arkansas high school football coach Rick Jones will take his team to it’s third straight state championship game appearance this weekend. It should come as no surprise given his devotion to the profession. It’s expressed even in his hobby.
He collects football memorabillia–with an unusual angle.
Coaches from Vince Lombardi to Marty Schottenheimer are a part of Jones’ elaborate "wall of honor"– college football gameday programs featuring prominent college and pro coaches during their college playing days.
“I just came up with the idea one time of trying to get old programs from when great coaches were players,” Jones said. “That’s what I did. I made a list of those who I want to get their programs and sort of honor them in my own small, tiny way.
“Specifically, I’m trying to get every great Super Bowl winning coach when he was a player in college. I’m short some, but hopefully, I will live long enough to get it done.”
