One of just 11 1955 Topps Roberto Clemente rookie cards to land a PSA 9 grade will hit the auction block this summer.
Heritage Auctions will offer the card in its July 19-20 Summer Sports Card Auction. It carries a pre-sale estimate of $350,000 or more, but that could be a modest figure. The last two sales of mint Clemente rookies took place in 2016—one selling through Heritage for $478,000 and the other for $468,000.
Only one PSA 10 exists—a card that once resided in the high-end collection of former major leaguer Dmitri Young. It sold for $432,690 in 2012.
Of the three major rookie cards in the 1955 Topps set, the Clemente is most difficult to find in a mint grade. There are 23 Koufax 9s (three 10s) and 19 Harmon Killebrew 9s (one 10).
The auction catalog will include hundreds of high-grade and rare vintage cards from all sports. Bidding is expected to begin on June 27.
