A Roberto Clemente fan is about to put his collection on permanent public display.
Duane Rieder’s fascination with Roberto Clemente has led to a nice collection of baseball cards and–he says–the world’s largest accumulation of Clemente autographs. He’s also a professional photographer who’s uncovered some symbolic shots of the late great Hall of Fame outfielder.
35 years after Clemente’s tragic death in a plane crash, Rieder is working to open a museum in Pittsburgh, showcasing Clemente’s life and the letting others see the memorabilia he’s accumulated.
Located near the current home of the Pittsburgh Pirates, it should be open in time for the 2008 season.
