Autographed Mickey Mantle cards from early in his major league career, a signed 1951 Bowman Willie Mays rookie card dozens of rookie cards of sports icons from decades ago are among the marquee items in the largest online catalog ever produced by Clean Sweep Auctions.
The Port Washington, NY company’s “The Big One” auction is also anchored by a large single-owner collection of vintage complete sets dating back to the 1930s.
The Mays rookie card, signed in blue Sharpie, carries a 10 autograph grade from PSA with the card grading 2.5.
The signed Mantle cards include 1953 Topps and both 1953 and ’54 Bowman, among others.
There are three unsigned Mantle and three unsigned Mays rookie cards in lower grades as well.
Pre-War collectors will find five 1933 Goudey Babe Ruth cards and two of Lou Gehrig, a complete 1935 Goudey set with each card authenticated and graded, a 1939 Play Ball ted Williams rookie, a T206 Ty Cobb bat off shoulder with a Tolstoi back and a T206 Demmitt St. Louis variation.
Other modern era lots include 1952 Berk Ross cards of Mantle and Mays (PSA 8, 7), a 1952 Star Cal Decal Mantle, a pair of 1952 Topps Willie Mays cards, 1953 Bowman Color Mantle PSA 7, three 1953 Topps Mantles and a pair of 1953 Topps Willie Mays cards, one graded PSA 7.
Among the other highlights are a PSA graded 1957 Topps set, a 1960 Post Cereal Mantle PSA 2, 1948 Bowman George Mikan rookie PSA 3, a graded 1970-1 Topps basketball set with 143 PSA 8s and a 2003 Topps Chrome LeBron James PSA 10 rookie card.
In addition to the signed Mantle and Mays cards, baseball autograph collectors will see a a signed 1954 Topps Hank Aaron, a signed 1966 East Hills Pirates signed set with Roberto Clemente, several items signed by Ruth and Gehrig and a PSA 10 Jackie Robinson cut.
Among the top items is a display piece featuring autographs from Ruth and the other members of the 1916 Red Sox starting pitching staff.
Basketball collectors will see a large number of rookie cards across all eras, several sets and multiple Upper Deck Authenticated Michael Jordan UDA autographs, including a basketball, large format book and several large prints.
There are a variety of complete football sets dating to the 1940s, unopened boxes and a complement of rookie cards. Hockey collectors will see complete sets dating back to the early 1950s, and some unique autographed items.
Among the baseball memorabilia in the sale are World Series programs dating back to the 1920s and 1930s, desirable tickets also dating back to the 1920s and a Shoeless Joe Jackson full size decal bat.
