It began as a small social media club of baseball fans and collectors seven years ago. Since then, the Cincinnati Reds Memorabilia Collectors Facebook Group has grown to over 10,000 members.
This Saturday, May 22, they’re holding what might be one of the most unique single team oriented memorabilia shows the hobby has ever seen.
It’ll be held from 10 AM to 4 PM at the Cincinnati Marriott North with 31 vendors on hand, spreading out over 75 tables.
Chris Lykins along with fellow collectors Shawn Sparks and Chris Gamble started the Facebook page in 2014 and it grew by word of mouth through regular local card shows and autograph signing events.
“This group is different than most collecting groups,” Lykins told SC Daily. “It’s not just buying and selling but also people trading items, sharing their collections, researching items and helping one another. A lot of people have become friends not just online but off line as well thru the group with the common interest of collecting Cincinnati Reds memorabilia.”
In addition to a legion of collectors from Southern Ohio and Northern Kentucky, group members will be coming from West Virginia, Tennessee, South Carolina and Indiana.
“There will be stadium seats, pennants, mirrors, signs, buttons, glassware, ticket stubs, autographs, game-used equipment, posters, bobbleheads, framed pieces, programs, statues, photos, publications, vintage and modern cards and many other hard-to-find items,” Lykins says.
Leo Cardenas, who played shortstop for the Reds from 1960-68, will sign autographs from 11:30-1.
Admission is free.
