SCP Auctions has been selected to sell dozens of items from the estate of Hall of Fame basketball coach Chuck Daly.
Daly was one of the biggest names in coaching during the late 1980s to mid-1990s, leading the Detroit Pistons to consecutive titles in 1989 and ‘90, and the United States Men’s Olympic Basketball Team – nicknamed the “Dream Team” – to the gold medal at the 1992 Summer Olympics in Barcelona, Spain.
Daly is actually a two-time member of the Hall, having been inducted in 1994 for his individual coaching career, and again posthumously in 2010 as the head coach of that famous Olympic squad.

Always known for his sharp dress and extremely popular among players and colleagues, Daly lost his battle with pancreatic cancer in May of 2009 at the age of 78.
During the course of his prolific coaching career he saved several valuable pieces of memorabilia which will be offered for sale in SCP Auctions’ 2015 Mid-Summer Classic online auction, which starts August 5 and concludes August 22. Every item comes with provenance from the Daly Estate.

Among the Dream Team items consigned to auction is a painted game-used basketball from the historic gold medal victory in ’92 signed by Daly’s players including Michael Jordan, Larry Bird and Magic Johnson, a second team-signed ball, Daly’s hand-written notes for his first meeting with members of the U.S. team, his practice warmups and other clothing related to the Games.

A 1994 type-written letter from Jordan on his personal stationery and signed at the bottom is also going on the block. The letter is a thank you to Daly for participating in an important charity function.
Other items from Daly’s estate include a single-signed Jordan signed ball, Daly’s notes from his Hall of Fame acceptance speech and other items from his induction, a 1996 Olympic torch, letters from well-known NBA coaches and executives as well as various team signed and All-Star basketballs.
Registration for the auction can be done now on SCP Auctions’ website.
