The hunt continues for six valuable championship boxing belts stolen from the sport’s Hall of Fame last fall.
Rewards are being offered for information leading to the arrest and conviction of those responsible for the theft of the six belts, four of which were presented to Carmen Basilio and two that were given to Tony Zale.
The Hall is located in Canastota, NY. Entry was gained by breaking a window and a display case housing the belts. It did not have a surveillance camera system. Police there along with other local law enforcement agencies and the FBI’s Antiques Bureau are investigating but have had few leads in the case and apparently little evidence from the crime scene.
The Hall is offering a $5,000 reward for the return of the belts.
Mike Tyson is among the celebrities who have publicized the theft. He’s offering three autographed items as a reward.
“The Championship Belt represents the years of blood, sweat and tears the fighter goes through just to enter the ring,” Tyson stated on his Facebook page. “The fight is the easy part.”
