One of the hobby’s longest operating card shops is hoping to rebuild after a devastating fire.
The owner of a nearby business spotted the fire early Wednesday morning at Cards-R-Fun in Nashville, TN, but by the time firefighters arrived, the shop–jammed with boxes of cards and other memorabilia—had suffered heavy smoke and some fire damage.
Owner John Dunphy, a Vietnam veteran, has been in business since the 1980s and says he hasn’t been able to properly insure the business because he’s been the victims of multiple break-ins over the years. WKRN-TV talked with him –and customers who are trying to help:

Bidding for the 2007-08 Kobe Bryant jersey at Sotheby’s stood at $4.5 million Thursday night. With the buyer’s premium factored in, it’s at nearly $5.5 million.
Bidding is set to run through Feb. 9.
The jersey, which has been photo matched to at least 25 games of his MVP season including the night in which he received his award, appears on target to easily meet or surpass the top end of its $7 million estimate.

The football Emmitt Smith carried when he scored his only touchdown in the Dallas Cowboys’ win over the Buffalo Bills in Super Bowl XXVII 30 years ago sold for $13,522 Thursday in the latest round of auctions he’s been holding through the Notable Live platform on eBay.
The presentational ball was from Dallas’ 52-17 shellacking of the Bills in Pasadena, CA.
A 2003 Arizona Cardinals jersey, a touchdown football from the 1994 NFC Championship game and his SEC Player of the Year award from 1989 and other items were also set to sell by Friday.
Two touchdown footballs from the 1995 and 1996 NFC title games sold recently for $5,732 and $8,755 respectively while two game-used jerseys from his final NFL season sold for over $5,000 each.
Smith saved hundreds of items from his NFL career and has been parting with them a little at a time in recent years, with most being sold through Notable Live. Winners of some of the larger items get to take part in a private video conference with Smith, typically held during football games.
