Their biggest worry during COVID wasn’t about the hobby going up in smoke. It was making sure the mail didn’t shut down. The US Postal Service is a big component for a Richmond, VA area eBay business. DCSports87 is one of the hobby’s busiest sports card sellers, taking cards on consignment from across the country, listing them and then shipping around the world–some 1,200 to 1,400 packages every day.
Losing mail service would have crippled the business, at least temporarily.
That never happened, of course, and business boomed from $1.5 million in sales in 2019 to $9 million last year.
This year? $40 million in completed auction sales, according to Tory Hermens who runs the business along with brother-in-law Zach Camann. They’re just two of about 40 people who work for the business now–a far cry from where the company was when it was founded just five years ago.
Thousands of cards are listed via sale and auction on their eBay store page each week–both modern and vintage at just about every price point. They also offer box breaks.
Rachel DePompa of NBC 12 in Richmond recently stopped by for an inside look at the company that’s been a huge beneficiary of the sports card boom.
