MLB Auctions is offering items from the first two weeks of the season and one in particular stood out: Bryce Harper’s Opening Day game worn jersey. It was his first and he made some history while wearing it.
The jersey is adorned with the Sandy Hook commemorative patch worn by all teams. On Thursday night, the jersey sold for $13,025 after collecting 82 bids.
Earlier in the day, Harper took to Twitter to express dismay about not being able to keep it.
He followed up with another:
Major League Baseball does give proceeds from the auctions to charity, so maybe that softened the blow a bit.
Right now, the auction site is selling off some of the #42 team signed jerseys from the Jackie Robinson Day celebrations. Game jerseys from those contests will follow in the coming days.
