My eyes always get a little wide when I see our first shipment of Panini Origins Football each season.
With a very high end look and feel, coupled with an artistic design, it’s one of my favorite products each year.
This year’s release is much like years past, with seven cards in a one pack box, including two autographs and one memorabilia hit, one of which is a Rookie Jumbo Jersey Autograph.
The cover boy for this particular product is our own Pittsburgh Steelers rookie quarterback Kenny Pickett.
We ripped the seal off the box and found our one thick silver pack and away we went.
The first card out of the pack was a Kadarius Toney parallel numbered to 10 copies. The new Kansas City Chief didn’t quite find his way with the New York Giants but should get his targets in KC, catching balls from Patrick Mahomes.
Next up was a base rookie card of Tampa Bay Buccaneers running back Rachaad White.
The next card we flipped over was a Hometown Roots jersey card of Philadelphia Eagles tight end Dallas Goedert, who hails from Britton, SD. Making this card even more spectacular than the fact that it was numbered to 10 is the fact that it holds a clear laundry tag, which, in most cases, is as good as a 1 of 1.
It’s honestly the first laundry tag I remember pulling in quite some time at the store. Memorabilia cards can still be special when the memorabilia piece is special.
The next card up was a parallel of Washington Redskins running back Antonio Gibson number to 299 copies. An OK card of a solid running back.
The next card we pulled off the pile was our RPA, which featured a Steelers wide receiver but not the one we were looking for.as we got a Calvin Austin black piece and sticker autograph. 
Mr. Austin literally has no stats to speak of so far this the season as the wide receiver core in Pittsburgh is quite deep. Fellow rookie receiver George Pickens is the star rookie wide out on the black and yellow squad for sure.
Our sixth card was the memorabilia hit which featured a /10 Tyrion Davis-Price, a rookie running back for the San Francisco 49ers.
Much like Austin, Price doesn’t really see the field all that often. So far this box leaves a little to be desired in the rookie category.
We definitely saved the best for last as our final card was an Origins Rookie Stars Dual Jersey Auto card of Atlanta Falcons rookies wide receiver Drake London and quarterback Desmond Ridder. This bird of prey is numbered 2 out of just 10 and features on card autographs of both London and Ridder and really nice multiple color jersey swatches of both rooks.
It’s a very nice oversized booklet of two young prospects in Atlanta and a good way to end what had been a less than stellar box.
At this year’s price of $225-$250, Origins is a better deal compared to the $400 or so boxes were going for last year. With all that being said, we might have come close to breaking even with this one.
