The shop received a shipment of the much anticipated and 2022 Absolute Football hobby boxes last week. Each hobby box offers three mini boxes that contain five cards in each mini. Overall, collectors should find three autographs and two memorabilia hits at per master box.
One of the big draws, as you could expect, are the Kaboom inserts but this product also offers ultra rare Glass inserts that have been very popular.
Collectors can expect to find one Rookie Premier Material Autograph per master box as well.
While it may have sounded like a good idea at the time, Panini’s decision to get Russell Wilson of the Broncos to adorn the packaging has not worked out quite so well with the former Seahawk having struggled mightily with the Broncos this season. Still, it’s what’s inside that counts and collectors usually like Absolute. Boxes are being sold on eBay in the $420-$475 range at the moment.
The first thing we noticed is that the base cards are super thick this year.
Our first big hit was a jumbo rookie patch of Detroit Lions defensive stud Aidan Hutchinson. It was a nice multicolored patch number to 49.
That was followed immediately by a beautiful Tools of the Trade Matt Ryan which consisted of dual memorabilia (including jersey and a ball) and a sticker auto that has the Colts horseshoe peeking out from underneath. This card was numbered 25 out of 25.
The second mini box yielded back-to-back cards of San Francisco 49ers RB Tyrion Davis-Price with the first being a numbered rookie card and the second being the Rookie Premier quad mem and sticker auto, numbered to 199 copies that the box noted.
Our third down mini box had a few base cards of stars such as Dalvin Cook, Tua Tagovailoa and then we hit a Tools of the Trade triple relic card of Houston Texans quarterback Davis Mills, numbered to 99. The three pieces of memorabilia offered a nice, colorful combination.
The last autograph hit was Indianapolis Colts rookie tight end Jelani Woods numbered to 100.
The third mini box ended with a bang of a gold Cooper Kupp card numbered 10 of 10 (his college jersey), which was a fun way to wrap this thing up.
As with the majority of boxes these days, we probably didn’t get our money (even at cost) back but at least this box did offer some very nice, colorful, unique and interesting cards.
Of course, landing a major low numbered hit of a top rookie or major star can certainly change opinions. We didn’t get that in this box, but there are certainly worse products to roll the dice on than this one. You can see other cards that have come out of 2022 Absolute Football here.
