Money sometimes gets in the way of collecting baseball cards. Sometimes, though, it happens only if you let it.
They’re not pricing their collection every six months. They don’t collect because something sounds like a good investment or is the current ‘hot product’.
They collect because they like to. It’s fun. It’s a big part of just being a sports fan and the cards are what connect them to games and seasons past.
Ben Henry is one of those guys. Not many collectors were writing about cards when he started The Baseball Card blog in early 1986–just a few months before the launch of Sports Collectors Daily. He took some time off in late 2008 and 2009, but he’s back again, providing witty and thoughtful insights on baseball and baseball cards, sometimes weaving history into an essay on the topic of the day.
He’s also the subject of a profile in an online magazine. Artifact Collectors chatted with Ben about his collection, what became of those he disposed of when his stash got too big and what cards represent to him. Read it here.
