Bob Feller may be 91 but he’s still Rapid Robert.
Feller still travels around the country doing appearances and autograph shows. The Hall of Famer still runs his museum in Iowa and usually has time to chat with reporters who want to hear about his career, modern players or anything else you ask him about.
Feller apparently isn’t hurting for money. In an interview with the Cleveland Plain Dealer, he offered the history of the bat Babe Ruth is leaning on in the famous photograph at Yankee Stadium not long before the Bambino’s death from cancer. It was a Feller model bat but it cost a pretty penny for him to get it back; something he wasn’t able to do until recently.

John Schenk, the St. Louis area teenager who runs Show Me State Signatures, always tries to make sure some of his proceeds benefits area charities.
He’s now working with South Side Youth Ministry, a non-for-profit group that offers constructive outlets to hundreds of inner city kids to keep them off the streets. They offer float trips, camp outs, youth conferences, open gym nights and other sports-related events. John says it’s an organization that is improving the lives of 7th grade through college kids on a daily basis.
“Like many other Non profits, SSYM was been struggling lately,” he said. “About eight months ago, they came to me asking if I could help. So on top of my business, I have really been trying to do that. With the help of many we have been able to keep the ministry open for this past year. However, this year they are really hurting. I have been set a $4,000 goal to get by June 30th to keep this dynamic youth ministry running as solid as it is which is really pushing it considering the economy.”
John is holding a raffle to try and meet that goal. For a $25 donation, you will be eligible for a drawing on June 9th to win a trip to a Cardinals ballgame with Jack “the Ripper” Clark. Clark will meet the winner and one guest an hour before the game at the Stadium Club for a complimentary dinner and drinks.
“After dinner he will escort you on the field for photos,” said Schenk. “Jack will sit with you and your guest during the game in premium Busch Stadium seating and will have a piece of memorabilia for both you and your guest.”
The game is scheduled for Friday June 18th vs. Oakland. I can think of a lot worse things to spend $25 on. See Show Me State Signatures for details on what looks like a great event and a worthy cause.
