Deep pocket fans jumped on the Red Sox team record-tying ball to the tune of over $25,000 when the hammer fell Tuesday night.
You may have read here earlier that David Ortiz had turned over the baseball he hit for his 50th homer of the season. It went to a charity auction but what you may not know is that the package also includes a meet and greet with Big Papi and tickets to a game.
Bidding had surpassed $40,000 but at least one bidder pulled out on Tuesday or was rejected. Final price for the ball plus a special meet & greet was $25,750.
Ortiz tied Jimmie Foxx for the all-time Boston Red Sox single-season home run mark when he hit his 50th last Wednesday night.
A fan caught the blast, then swapped it back to Ortiz after the game for some other items. He turned it over to the team for the fund-raising auction.
