The single greatest offering of Tom Brady cards in existence, a Kobe Bryant high school jersey, game-worn gear from the archives of the Pittsburgh Steelers and an array of modern rookie cards are among the highlights as Lelands kicks off its 2021 Mid-Spring Classic Auction.
The centerpiece of the collection of nearly 100 of the best Brady rookies, autographs and unopened wax boxes is the highest graded 2000 Playoff Contenders Championship Ticket autographed rookie card (a BGS MINT 9), dubbed the “Holy Grail” of Brady rookies. Within the first 24 hours of the auction opening, bidding had already cleared $1 million. Lelands sold another specimen of the card (a BGS NM-MT 8.5) for a record-setting $2.25 million earlier this year.
The Brady card collection up for bid also features a BGS 9.5 Bowman Chrome Refractor, numerous SP Authentic rookies, a 1/1 NFL logo shield, SPX and a rare 2000 Upper Deck SP Authentic sealed hobby box.
The Bryant jersey dates to his days at Lower Merion High School back in the mid-1990s. Sourced from one of the basketball legend’s agents, it was passed down to a former NBA player and is carries a $50,000 opening bid.
Another auction centerpiece is a 2007-08 Exquisite Collection Rookie Parallel Kevin Durant three color rookie patch autograph numbered to 35 and graded BGS 9. The Durant three-color is one of the most iconic Exquisite RPAs ever produced. Bidding had topped $180,000 by late Monday afternoon.
Also on the auction block are a Juan Soto 2016 Bowman Chrome Prospect Autographs Orange Refractors (BGS GEM MINT 9.5), a a 2017 National Treasures Patrick Mahomes Printing Plate 1/1 rookie patch autograph; a Ty Cobb T206 Red Portrait PSA 8 — there are none higher — and a Babe Ruth glass plate negative that produced his 1933 Goudey #181 card. Other vintage photographs that are part of the famed Brown Brothers archive are on the block as well.
The auction also includes a 2019 National Treasures FOTL Zion Williamson RPA (#’d to 30) BGS 9, a 2018 Panini Prizm Blue #280 Luka Doncic Rookie (#’d to 199) PSA 10, a 1976 Topps #148 Walter Payton rookie card PSA 10 and a 1986 Fleer Basketball wax box.
Lelands’ partnership with the Pittsburgh Steelers has resulted in the offering of a fresh batch of game jerseys dating back to the 1970s, all directly from the team’s archives. Gamers worn by Dwight White, L.C. Greenwood and Donnie Shell are among more than 20 in the catalog.
Among the other game-worn jerseys in the sale is one donned by Kawhi Leonard in the last two games of the 2013 NBA Finals.
Collectors also have a chance to bid on Super Bowl I full unused tickets, Tom Brady’s signed, game-worn cleats from his first-ever matchup against Mahomes and Frank Ryan’s 1964 Browns NFL Championship ring. As we reported earlier, the football Brady threw for his first NFL touchdown pass in 2001 is up for grabs as well with bidding for the well-publicized artifact having already edged toward $100,000 on Monday.
Bidding runs through June 4 at Lelands.com.
