Beckett Grading Services and James Spence Authentication, which announced a partnership for autographed sports cards in 2007, are now teaming up with Balldome on an signed baseball alliance.
Spence and BGS are now encapsulating, grading and authenticating autographed baseballs. Each ball will be placed into a relatively new ball holder called BallDome (you might remember our story when they debuted at the Cleveland National in 2009). Details about the baseball are printed on a label that encircles the base. The holder is sonically sealed and is designed to keep the ball from moving.
Beckett reported on its website this week that a submission form hasn’t been created yet but fees would include JSA’s authentication fee plus $40 for grading and encapsulation.
According to a blog post by Chris Olds at Beckett, collectors “can choose to encapsulate only, grade the autograph only or grade both the autograph and the ball”.
