Maryland collector Chris Rothe has taken possession of the 1955 Bowman Mickey Mantle card pulled from a pack at the National. As a collector, it’s hard to imagine anyone having a luckier day than he did on Friday, August 3.
While he wasn’t watching live when the pack was opened at the National, he was still stunned when he watched it a little later and saw his spot in the 20-card break lead to the OMG moment and a card that was subsequently graded 9 by PSA. The value is likely $50,000 or more.
Pedigreed on the label, the card isn’t going anywhere for now, but the 36-year-old owner of Write Notepads & Co., near Camden Yards in Baltimore, already has a ’55 Bowman in his collection.
Vintage Breaks opened a 1954 Bowman pack Thursday night. Spots in the break were $950 with participants hoping there would be a sequel to the above.
A 2003-04 Upper Deck Ultimate BGS 10 LeBron James rookie auto sold at auction last night. You can check it out here.
A 1986-87 Fleer basketball set with 131 of the 132 cards graded PSA 10 (Johnny Moore is a BGS 9.5) also hit the finish line. See the end result here.
