The latest Babe Ruth rookie card to hit the market is drawing bidders not shy about chasing one of the hobby’s icons.
With a little over a week to go, the 1914 Baltimore News Babe Ruth PSA 2 rookie card offered by Memory Lane Inc has passed the six figure mark.
The auction for one of the hobby’s most desirable cards closes April 4. Thus far, 17 bids have been made and the current high bid stands at $112,000–still short of the reserve price set by the consignor.
The Ruth rookie card was recently listed in a Forbes.com article as among the hobby’s most valuable cards. One copy sold at auction last year for over $500,000.
“When seeking good quality items”, says JP Cohen of Memory Lane, Inc., “you should concentrate on true rarities, items that are truly one-of-a-kind and this Babe Ruth rookie card is truly one-of-a-kind. Each year a new bar is set with these types of cards and they have proven to escalate in value over the years. Why? Simple mathematics, all based on supply and demand.”
