Two vintage pieces of baseball memorabilia highlight a pre-season auction of vintage pieces.
A Babe Ruth bat, authenticated as game-used and given a grade of "8" sold for $40, 263 in American Memorabilia’s auction which closed Thursday night/Friday morning. Adding in the company’s 19.5% buyer’s premium and the final selling price was $48,114. The bat had belonged to a former American League umpire.
In the same sale, a 1957 Roy Campanella game-used Brooklyn Dodgers jersey sold for $48,640 with the premium. The Campy jersey had been handed down to the team’s minor league club for use the following season, then eventually donated to a Legion team.
An autographed Jackie Robinson baseball, graded 9 by PSA/DNA sold for $28,454 while a 1977 Reggie Jackson game-used road jersey went for $24,228.
