The days of players hanging out with fans after games–even World Series games–are long gone. Now, even ordinary, momentary contact with Joe Public is limited, thanks in part to a throng of autograph seekers trying to add to their collection–or their bank account.
You have to outsmart the other guy. Maybe do something the average person wouldn’t. Even then some teams, like the Cardinals, would just rather not deal with it. But that didn’t stop fans from Detroit and around the Midwest from trying.
