One Steelers fan and his helmet have travelled the country in search of the black and gold’s all-time greats.
It was empty when he got it as a Christmas gift in 1994. Not anymore.
We all have our little collecting obsessions and one loyal blogger on the Behind the Steel Curtain website has been on a mission for the last 14 years. He’s been steadfast in his goal to add some of the biggest names in Pittsburgh Steelers history to the black shell in the form of gold Sharpie signatures.
So far, he has nearly three dozen former players, most of whom were pleased to add their autograph. But meeting the players he’s watched through the years was as much fun as adding to his collection.
"Holy cow, how did you get all these?" asked Steelers’ owner Dan Rooney, when asked to add his moniker.
Even dinged up a bit through the travels, the helmet probably worth a few bucks, but our man isn’t selling— just telling the tale.
