An auction of items from hockey’s “first family” raised over $200,000 for charity.
Frozen Pond sold items consigned by the family of Gordie Howe, including the stick he used to score the 801st and final regular season goal of his career and the two pucks from that goal and the final playoff goal of his career. Each lot went for $21,250. Howe’s 1974 Summit Series gloves netted $3,950.
Items from sons Marty and Mark Howe were also part of the auction. Another group of items will be offered this fall.
Net proceeds will be directed to The Howe Foundation, a charity started by Gordie Howe and his wife Colleen to help needy children who are interested in sports.
