Two Pennsylvania men have turned their hobby into a business. Craig Waters and Todd Schafer of Allentown, PA, were autograph collectors who are now the owners of Under the Radar Sports Promotions, a business specializing in athlete autograph appearances.
The two launched the company four years ago, hoping to bring some fresh names in for public signing sessions. Since then, they’ve worked with more than 100 current and former players, many of whom have “flown under the radar” in autograph circles, hence the name of their business.
It’s not a full-time venture yet. One is a teacher and the other runs a video production company that works with high school athletic programs, but they’ve been busy.
Their first show proved to be an expensive lesson when they flew some former athletes in for a weekend and didn’t realize all of the expenses they’d incur.
Their location—equidistant from Philadelphia and New York—is a collecting hotbed, though and business is good, according to this story on LVB.com.
