Trouble is, broken bats are becoming commonplace in Major League Baseball this year. Clubs are breaking them at an average of one for every game just since July 3.
Why is it happening? That’s what they’re trying to determine.
Consultants have been hired and some game-used cracked bats that normally might have wound up in a team’s end-of-year garage sale are on their way to a lab for testing.
MLB authenticators are using the skills they were hired for to catalog all of the memorabilia scraps to help the sleuths uncover some answers.
