A long-time Chicago area sports card shop has a new lease on life. Its future was secured recently when a long-time friend of the Gold family who had been managing the store, decided to buy it. AU Sports may look a little different and do a few things differently, but it still boasts a huge
inventory of more than four million cards, not to mention vintage publications and autographs.
Scott Beatty, who ran the shop after long-time owner Steve Gold developed non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma in 2009, decided to take it over with the help of another friend, Frank Caputo.
It’s business as usual at AU Sports in the Village Crossing Shopping Center, where it moved to in 2008 after 28 years at two locations along Dempster Street in Skokie. But you can also expect to see the AU Sports name online a lot more.
