While it appears the controversy over some NFL players not standing for the national anthem has drifted away, Topps is using its latest baseball card product to showcase players who do.
2017 Opening Day Baseball, due out Wednesday, includes an insert set that shows 25 different players standing at attention while the anthem is played at various ballparks.
The set includes Bryce Harper, Noah Syndergaard, Clayton Kershaw, Aaron Judge, Venezuelan-born Jose Altuve, four members of the World Series champion Chicago Cubs and other notable stars. You can see some in the gallery below.
Opening Day always features some themed inserts that are non-traditional. In addition to the anthem set, this year’s sets include Incredible Eats, which features unique menu items from various big league stadiums, Stadium Signatures, a set focused on images of fans collecting player autographs, Bobbleheads, Superstar Celebrations and the annual return of Mascots.
There’s one insert card in each pack but the Anthem cards are apparently short printed at a rate of 1 in every 210 packs. You can see several posted on eBay now.
No, there’s no Francis Scott Key relic card.
