Memorabilia from the personal collection of Hall of Famer Andre Dawson, including his 1987 N.L. MVP Award, 1982 Gold Glove Award, his final career home run baseball and more, will be up for bid at Goldin Auctions this summer. Five of the marquee items will be sold during a Premium Live Auction on July 31, during the National Sports Collectors Convention in Chicago, while the other 13 lots will be offered from early July through August 8, on the company’s website.
“During his remarkable 21-year career, The Hawk was a fan favorite and one of the most respected players in baseball,” said Ken Goldin, founder of Goldin Auctions. “He has fans all across the U.S., but it’s fitting that the live auction will take place in Chicago, the city in which he evolved from a great young player into an MVP and a Hall of Famer.”
The 18-lot Andre Dawson Collection will include the following items:

After a cup of coffee with the Expos in 1976, Dawson was crowned the N.L. Rookie of the Year in 1977 when he batted .282 with 19 HR, 65 RBI and 21 stolen bases. After 11 seasons in Montreal he left via free agency, due in part to the artificial turf in Montreal that was ruining his knees. Knowing that the grass outfield at Wrigley Field was the best place for him, he famously signed a below market deal ($500,000 plus $200,000 bonuses) that turned into a huge bargain for the Cubs. In his first season in Chicago, he was named N.L. MVP by slugging 49 home runs and driving in 137 runs.
“His MVP Award is one of the most historic ever as it was presented after his first season with the Cubs, one in which he agreed to play for whatever the Cubs would pay him,” said Goldin of the blank contract.
Dawson retired after the 1996 season with 438 home runs, 1,591 RBI, 314 stolen bases, eight All-Star Game appearances and eight Gold Gloves. He was elected to the Baseball Hall of Fame in 2010.
The Premium Live Auction will be held on July 31, at the Muvico 18 Theater in Rosemont, IL, located just a mile from the Stephens Convention Center. It will include 100 live lots of premium high-value sports memorabilia, each valued at over $10,000.
Some of the other Premium Live Auction Lots besides the five Dawson items include: 1920s Babe Ruth game-used and signed bat; a 1925-32 Ruth game worn New York Yankees cap; Christy Mathewson’s 1905 World Series Game 5 bat signed by his teammates (PSA 10/MEARS 10); a 1952 Topps Mickey Mantle PSA NM-MT 8; a 1933 Goudey Nap Lajoie (PSA NM 7); a Hank Greenberg game used and signed Tigers cap and Mike Tyson’s Heavyweight Championship Belt from unifying the title.
