It wasn’t a secret. Topps made the original announcement at its Industry Conference back in February that it would be making a fresh, shiny version of one of its annual releases. Now we’re learning more about 2020 Topps Allen & Ginter Chrome.
If you love Chrome, you might like it. If you insist on a bunch of autographs with your box rips, you probably won’t. If you want to try a retail blaster box, you won’t find them. 2020 Ginter Chrome is hobby-only. It’s set for release on December 4. A checklist is available for download below.
2020 Topps Allen & Ginter Chrome Configuration and Base Set
Ginter Chrome will pack 18 packs per box with four cards in each pack. Each box should hold six base Refractors, 18 base Mini cards and seven inserts. That leaves plenty of room for base cards and there will be 300 of them to collect. Baseball players will be the main focus but like all Ginter releases, look for some pop culture, too.
Base card parallels will include:
• Refractor – 1:3 packs
• Green Refractor – #’d to 99
• Gold Refractor – #’d to 50
• Orange Refractor – #’d to 25
• Red Refractor – #’d to 5
• SuperFractor – #’d 1 of 1
There will be a mini version of the base set as well and you’ll need to do some serious work to finish it, with just one per pack. The minis will have just two parallels: Red (# to 5) and 1/1 SuperFractors.
Autographs
With only one autograph per case, you know the checklist won’t be huge and Topps says only 30 subjects will be signing for Ginter Chrome. Signatures will be on-card. Autograph parallels will include:
• Orange Refractor – #’d to 25
• Red Refractor – #’d to 5
• SuperFractor – #’d 1 of 1
Inserts
The mini-sized insert cards will drift out of sports and include:
Buggin’ Out! – What Topps describes as “20 of the coolest and creepiest insects and arachnids.” Three will be found per box.
Booming Cities – A checklist of 15 cards showcasing some of the fastest-growing cities in the world. Two Booming Cities cards will be in each box.
Safari Sights – Animals, landmarks, and the cultures unique to Africa are celebrated in
a 15-card set with two found per box.
Boxes are currently available on eBay for $165-$170.
