Just 10 cut autographs are included in the 2007 Topps Allen & Ginter card set. From Fidel Castro to Roy Rogers, it’s a quirky group. Out of one pack came an Admiral Richard E. Byrd, which was dethawed and sold on eBay for $15,000 late Thursday night, beating out the Mother Teresa by a decent margin.
Richard Byrd was a busy guy in the first half of the last century–flying airplanes over the Atlantic, exploring the artic regions and generally acting like an admiral. He had time to sign his name occasionally and one cut autograph pulled from a box of 2007 Topps Allen & Ginter cards has brought a $15,000 price on eBay.
The auction ended with a Buy it Now price that was actually higher than the infamous Mother Teresa cut from the same issue. It was sold just hours earlier, drawing 45 bids at a straight auction with a final price of $10,099.
By the way, did you know Richard Byrd’s middle name was Evelyn?
If you prefer your historic figures to be baseball players on standard cards, a 1933 Goudey Carl Hubbell, graded PSA 9, sold for $12K Wednesday evening.
