Kareem Abdul-Jabbar is taking an active role in promoting the ongoing auction of his career memorabilia. Bidding for 234 lots is set to close this weekend via Goldin Auctions.
As we reported earlier this month, four of his championship rings are up for grabs as well as All-Star Game rings, game-worn jerseys, trophies and other items. Bidding for his 1987 Lakers championship ring was at $110,000 as of Thursday morning with his ’85 at $100,000. The game ball from his final NBA game on April 23, 1989 was at $85,000.
In addition to media appearances he shot a series of online videos in which he discusses some of the items in the catalog, such as his 1988 NBA title ring.
You can see the entire series of videos here.
Still the NBA’s all-time leading scorer, Abdul-Jabbar says a significant portion of the proceeds from the auction will be donated to his SkyHook Foundation.
