Sports Collectors Daily celebrated its fourth anniversary last month and to celebrate, we’ve added a couple of little improvements to the website that might make your experience a little better.
Well that sounds good, but it’s a lie. We celebrated with a huge pizza and giant bowls of ice cream. The improvements had nothing to do with it, but we stand by the rest.
Number one…you can now search for specific key words and phrases in the search box at the upper right. In other words, if you search for a story that includes references to the 1952 Topps Mickey Mantle and put it in quotes (“1952 Topps Mickey Mantle”), you’ll get nothing but stories where that card is specifically referenced. Other results that reference Topps and Mantle but have nothing to do with 1952 will be filtered out. With about 5,000 stories in our library, that’s a big help when you need information that’s specific.
Secondly, at the bottom of each story, you’ll notice a group of links that are stories related in some way to the story you’re reading. It’s a nice feature for anyone looking for additional articles on the topic.
Number 3: We’ve added a Facebook “Like” button to the top of each story. It makes it ‘one click simple’ to share a story with your friends and acquaintances on Facebook. They’ll think you’re well read and be really impressed with your generosity.
We’ve also added a Sports Collectors Daily Facebook app. I have no idea what it does, but our programmer thought it would be a great idea and I never argue with him.
We’ve also got a new, more sleek design for our social media/social bookmark sharing. You’ll see the little icon bar at the bottom that allows you to post links to our stories with Twitter, Facebook, Delicious, Digg, Google Buzz, Stumbleupon and Technorati. Just click the icon to save the stories you like to an online source.
We’ve also added a little ‘store’ for signed sports memorabilia and display cases at the top under the link “Order Sports Memorabilia”. It’s via a company that often has specials on signed items.
And now you know how we spent our weekend. Enjoy.
