Fans watching the NASCAR Xfinity Series race this Friday night will see a football card-inspired design on the hood of Gray Gaulding’s car. The ad for Donruss football cards features reigning NFL MVP Patrick Mahomes.
It’ll later be autographed by the two stars for a special charity auction.

Panini America is using the race to promote its new 2019 Donruss football product. The hood of Gaulding’s No. 08 Chevrolet Camaro at the Food City 300 in Bristol, TN features the Donruss design with an image of Mahomes, who threw for over 5,000 yards and 50 touchdowns in his breakout season.
When the race is over, Mahomes and Gaulding will sign it. The unique piece is already up for auction with proceeds benefitting Mahomes’ charitable foundation. Bidding is taking place on Panini’s eBay page and will continue through Saturday, August 24.
Considered the NFL’s flagship trading card product, 2019 Donruss football is at Walmart, Target, hobby shops and is now available online.
“To be able to benefit Patrick’s foundation, celebrate the start of the NFL season and drive awareness of both our NFL and NASCAR trading card products at mass retail in a unique and compelling way makes a lot of sense, especially with the new Victory Lane NASCAR product hitting Walmart and Target later this week,” said Panini Vice-President of Marketing Jason Howarth.
Panini maintains trading card and autograph relationships with both Mahomes and Gaulding. But this marks the first time that company officials will cross market NFL trading cards in the NASCAR arena.
“If You Ain't First You're Last.” S/o to @graygaulding for wrapping the #08 car with me & @paniniamerica fam. We’ll be auctioning off this hood for @15andMahomies. #donruss pic.twitter.com/tF2KIoaJww

Mahomes has had a business relationship with Mahomes since he entered the NFL out of Texas Tech. “It’s just an extension of that partnership; and the fact that my foundation will benefit as a result means a lot to me,” he said in a statement.
Friday night’s race will be televised on NBCSN and will be available on the NBC Sports app.
