After a year’s absence, Donruss Elite football returns in 2016 with a new emphasis that will please collectors — more on-card autographs, for example. That certainly is good news.
2016 Donruss Elite Basics
Panini America is promising two autographs per hobby box of Donruss Elite, with at least one being a hard-signed Pen Pals card. There also will be one relic card per hobby box. A case hit will be a Pen Pals Triple autograph card, and a super-short print variation will utilize different colors of ink, like green.
A hobby box will contain 20 packs, with five cards per pack.
The product will be released June 29. You can order boxes online for $110-$120.
Base, rookie and parallel cards will all be printed on different card stock. Look for parallel pattern variations in gold, blue and orange.
There was no word from Panini on the size of the base set.
Autograph and Relic Cards
In addition to the Pen Pals autograph insert, Turn of the Century aut
ographs will feature orange and gold parallels on patterned card stock and numbered to 10. Passing the Torch dual autographs, an Elite staple, will be numbered to 25.
Memorabilia cards in 2016 Donruss Elite Football will feature subsets like Epic Materials Super Prime, Prime Numbers and Throwback Threads Super Prime. There also will be low-numbered, signed versions of these cards.
The cards appear to be colorful, and the different stock will definitely give the cards a different kind of feel. The biggest plus for this year’s Donruss Elite football product, though, will be those on-card autographs that will be sprinkled throughout the product.
