The third largest eBay store for sports cards and memorabilia is located in…Sioux Falls, South Dakota.
Not being located in a major population center or a city that houses professional sports doesn’t matter these days, with the internet putting just about everyone on a level playing field.
Owner Dennis Worden also sells on the Beckett Marketplace, but he’s not online only. He’s run Triple Play Sports Cards since 2001 and sells everything from the newest boxes and team memorabilia to decades-old vintage cards. He’s constantly buying, with employees sorting, scanning and listing new inventory that now totals more than one million cards.
That eBay store? It’s home to over 800,000 items, with orders coming mainly from player collectors and those looking to fill want lists.
South Dakota NBC affiliate KDLT-TV stopped in earlier this month and did a story on Triple Play as part of a series on businesses that have adapted and thrived after their perceived heyday had ended. You can watch it here (we’ll make one correction for them. Peck & Snyder cards date to the 1860s, not 1886).
