They started coming when parts of the country still had snow on the ground and didn’t stop until the frost returned in late fall. There were six series—a whopping 787 baseball cards to collect—and a lot of bubble gum to chew.
The set included Carlton Fisk’s rookie card, a run of semi-high and high numbers (5th and 6th series cards) and the usual array of Hall of Famers sprinkled throughout.
The Vintage Set Break of the Month from Burl’s Sports is a 1972 Topps Baseball set that generally ranges from VG-NM with an average of EX/MT.
If you’ve never participated, a vintage set break offers collectors the chance to buy as many slots as they’d like. When all spots are filled (and it generally doesn’t take long), a random drawing is held live online with card numbers assigned to participants. Once completed, the cards are then shipped to their new owners.
Among the prizes that will be up for grabs in the Burl’s monthly break include:
595 Nolan Ryan EX; 79 Fisk EX; 299 Aaron EX-MT, 309 Clemente EX; 310 Clemente IA EX-MT; 433 Bench EX-MT; 435 Jackson NM; 455 Seaver EX; 550 Robinson EX-MT; 559 Rose VG-EX; 560 Rose IA EX; 600 Kaline EX-MT; Garvey EX-MT; 695 Carew EX-MT; Carew IA EX; 751 Carlton EX-MT; 752 Morgan EX; 760 Mazeroski EX;l 777 Wilhelm NM.
