These days, the Nolan Ryan rookie is the first card that comes to mind when you think of the 1968 Topps Baseball set, produced toward the end of nickel packs. However, the ’68 set also has Johnny Bench’s rookie card, the next-to-last card from Mickey Mantle’s playing days, a couple dozen Hall of Famers (and All-Star cards), a few sweet multi-player cards and other annual staples from the era.
The Vintage Set Break of the month from Burl’s Sports will give collectors a chance to relive the season that gave us Roger Maris’ farewell, Denny McLain’s 31 wins and Bob Gibson’s mound mastery.
The set break includes all 598 cards with slots priced at $3.49.
“This set is a mid-range set, which offers a nice entry point for someone who is new to set breaks,” said Justin Burleson, owner of Burl’s Sports.
Both the Ryan and Bench cards are graded PSA 4 (VG-EX) and the Mantle rates EX.
Once all slots in the break are full, the cards are distributed via a random draw conducted live online.
