The first thing to know about 2024 Topps Tier One Baseball is that it must have taken an army of people to gather everything that was scheduled to go into it. Between the autographs of current and retired players, cut signatures, bat knobs, book cards and everything else that’s jammed into a 36-page checklist, it’s a massive product.
This year’s edition offers what Topps is calling “a fresh look for a classic brand.” Boxes offer the usual single pack format with four cards per pack–2 autographs, one memorabilia card and one base card or base parallel. Yes, you read that last part right. There are base cards in 2024 Tier One.
It’s a small base set at just 100 cards, divvied up into three tiers: 20 retired greats in Tier 1, 50 veterans in Tier 2 and 30 rookie cards in Tier 3. There are autographed versions for some of the cards–just six retired stars and mostly younger players from Tier 2. There will be standard parallels as well, including several new types.
A 2024 Topps Tier One checklist and the odds for pulling hits is available at the bottom of the page.
Tier One is known for its autographs and memorabilia cards and the number of different subsets and possible pulls is enormous.
Most autograph subsets checklists include a mix of both current players and retired greats. Among them are the standard Tier One Autographs, Prime Performers, Breakout (young players and rookies), Next Level, Tier One Talent, Clear One (which will have dual versions like a Cal Ripken Jr.-Eddie Murray card), Advanced Stat Stars and more.
There’s a huge cut signature autograph lineup with everyone from U.S. Grant to Johnny Cash to Amelia Earhart and actual baseball players like Lou Gehrig.
Booklet cards and relic cards featuring pieces of bat barrels and knobs (a Babe Ruth-Shohei Ohtani bat combo will be one of the big hits), large patches and other elements are on the memorabilia side.
Tier One Relics will include die-cut versions that look much like Topps Triple Threads.
2024 Topps Tier One is set for release on July 3. A brief pre-sale sold out quickly at Topps.com last week.
