Fanatics has canceled plans for its show at Pittsburgh’s PNC Park that had been scheduled to take place later this month.
The two-day weekend gathering at the home of the Pittsburgh Pirates was the second of three that were announced last spring by the company’s new Fanatics Events division. The first, a fan/collector Comic Con style show called Fanatics Fest, took place in New York last month.
The show had been scheduled for Sept. 28-29 when the Pirates were wrapping up their season in New York.
“After the success of Fanatics Fest NYC, and in conversation with the Pirates, we simply didn’t feel we had enough time to build the event that fans deserve — and there is no rush,” Lance Fensterman, CEO of Fanatics Events told SC Daily in a statement. ” We are excited to build on venue-based collector events at iconic ballparks like PNC and others, and will when the time is right for our events business, our team partners and fans.”
The third and final event announced earlier this year, a collectibles oriented show in Orlando, FL Nov. 1-3 is still on, according to a company spokesman although no specific details have been released as of yet.
Fanatics indicated earlier this year it has plans to hold four types of events: larger, “flagship” gatherings like FanaticsFest, regional shows, venue specific locations where local athletes would sign autographs and partner events in which the company will “develop experiences” with its sports partners that take place in conjunction with league drafts or other gatherings where fans take part.
