The current season won’t be over for a few more weeks but production of the flagship NHL trading card product for next season is already underway. 2024-25 Upper Deck Series 1 Hockey will be out in the fall
Hobby boxes will contain 12 packs with 12 cards per pack and 12 boxes per case. As usual, blaster boxes, tins and hangar boxes will also be produced. Thirty-six of the 144 cards in the box will be inserts, according to Upper Deck.
The base set will have 250 cards, including 50 Young Guns rookie cards depicting players who made their debuts in the latter part of the 2023-24 season.
Other base set parallels include Exclusives (#’d), High Gloss (#’d) and Hobby-exclusive Clear Cut parallels, along with the Deluxe (#’d), Outburst Silver, Outburst Red (#’d) and Outburst Gold (#’d 1-of-1).
Young Guns will fall in every other pack. Clear Cut and Black & White Young Guns parallels will be found one per Hobby case. Canvas parallels will fall in every other box.
Upper Deck will introduce some new inserts to 2024-25 Series 1 including A-Lines, a set with cads that feature three players from the top line of all 32 teams. Numbered parallels and Printing Plates will be possible.
There’s a 100-card gaming-themed insert split into four 25-card subsets: Gaming Co-Op (two teammates along with four category comparisons), Gaming FOV (a single player pictured from behind so that you can see their “Field of View”), Gaming PVP (two players from different teams – one in their home jersey and the other in their away jersey – simulated to be competing against each other) and Gaming XP (features the “experience level” of each player).
All four subsets are printed on foilboard and there are Speckle, Blue, Green (#’d) and Gold (#’d) parallels of each. From the Gaming set, a typical box will contain six regular cards and one Speckle parallel!.
Young Guns Renewed are cards that take past Young Guns cards redone with the art of Luke the Cardist. Series 1 will feature notable Young Guns up through the 2013-14 season.
There will be three Young Guns Renewed cards per box with Exclusives (#’d) and High Gloss (#’d) parallels, as well as the Printing Plates. The first 50 cards of a planned 100-card set will be in Series 1 with the rest coming in Series 2.
Another new insert is Holotypes–a living set concept that Upper Deck says “will be a staple in Series 1 for the next few seasons.”
Returning insert sets include UD Portraits, with 30 cards of veteran players on the checklist. Series 2 will host the rookie versions.
Dazzlers inserts also return, but with a new design for ’24-25. The Series 1 checklist will have 50 cards, including a few rookies. Blue versions will be found one per box.
Other elements of Series 1 include Aimbot, which is focused on the league’s top goal scorers. Speckle, Black, Red (#’d) and Gold (#’d) parallels are possible. Breaking News recognizes top moments from the 2023-24 season, each card providing a brief description of the moment and an image from the game in which the moment occurred. Red (#’d) parallels and Printing Plates will be on the checklist.
City Satellites has a checklist of superstars and features a “popped-out, full-body action image of the player with a satellite view of their home city in the background,” according to Upper Deck. Speckle, Black, Red (#’d) and Gold (#’d) parallels will be possible.
Population Count mimics graded cards, with seven different print runs (1000, 500, 100, 50, 25, 10 and 1) on acetate stock. The final 30 cards of the set will be available in Series 2.
UD Canvas cards are back with four per box, on average. There are Black & White parallels as well as Printing Plates from all 120 cards on the checklist.
2024-25 Upper Deck Series 1 Hockey is currently set for release on Oct. 9.
