On the heels of the recent 2023 NFL Draft, we are excited to see some early, albeit draft related, products trickle into the shop. The latest is Panini’s Chronicles Draft Picks, which features Colts quarterback Anthony Richardson and new Seahawk Jackson Smith-Njigba on the front of the box.
As usual, you’ll find a double digit number of different Panini brand designs showing up under the Chronicles umbrella. Collectors can expect to find four autographs and one memorabilia card per six-pack box. Each pack offers eight cards with many of the current year draft class prospects and some of NFL superstars in their college unis from years past.
In a very first pack, we pulled our first auto. It was of Stanford University tight end Elijah Higgins in a Canvas Creations insert from the Impeccable line. Higgins was drafted in the sixth round by the Miami Dolphins in the recent draft.
We hit other autograph out of the Impeccable line a bit later in the break. This time it was a red parallel numbered to 199 of Clemson star Myles Murphy. In the same pack, we hit a Murphy numbered to 149 out of the Panini Black line.
In that first pack, we also snared Illinois defensive stud Devon Witherspoon, numbered 4/25.
We hit our first C.J. Stroud card from the Panini Contenders football line by way of a horizontal college ticket version.
Although not super valuable, it was nice to see.
Shortly thereafter, we pulled our second autograph, a First Impressions RPA of USC receiver Jordan Addison out of Illusions numbered to 75. Addison was the 2022 Biletnikoff Award winner and drafted in the first round by the Minnesota Vikings.
As I mentioned before, it’s just a barrage of different products from Donruss to Pinnacle to Spectra to Chronicles to XR and beyond. While some aren’t crazy about Chronicles, it can make for a fun and exciting rip just for the sheer number of different products being thrown your way and in this case, you know there are multiple hits coming.
In the next pack, we hit more Bryce Young and C.J. Stroud base cards from Contenders and Chronicles, respectively. We also hit our third autograph, this time of former Penn State defensive standout Jesse Luketa.
Raised in Canada, Luketa was selected in the final round of the ’22 draft by the Arizona Cardinals. This one came from the Sensational Signatures insert set out of the Prizm product. This card would make a number of our local collectors and fans happy with us only being a short drive from Happy Valley.
Chronicles has its own line of inserts and the next pack was home to a very colorful card of Xavier Hutchinson.
We are officially on the Devon Witherspoon bandwagon as we pulled a gold parallel out of Contenders Optic number to just ten copies. “Spoon” was drafted fifth overall by the Seattle Seahawks in hopes of making noise and a return to elite status for The Legion of Boom.
Our last pack is where we found our memorabilia card. It came from Plates and Patches and it was a big, Full Coverage card of former Oklahoma Sooners wide receiver Marvin Mims.
Mims was a second round pick of the Denver Broncos in April.
In the same pack, we hit a nice gold out of Classics of Georgia star quarterback and longtime college student Stetson Bennett.
We wouldn’t be surprised if he at least sees the field and makes a little bit of noise at some point in LA… or elsewhere.
Again, it was a fun rip but unless you hit big, and I mean really big, you won’t do well financially with Chronicles Draft. Open it, have fun and enjoy some early cards of this year’s draft class.
