Free card packs return to hobby shops in the US and elsewhere next month as Topps’ annual International Trading Card Day promotion returns. The event is once again set for the first weekend of August.
Once known as National Baseball Card Day, the name was changed last year as the concept expanded to parts of Europe and Japan.
Collectors who visit participating hobby shops on Saturday, August 5 can grab a special five-card pack of Topps trading cards from a lineup that includes MLB, UEFA Champions League, Formula 1, Bowman U Football, Athletes Unlimited (a variety of other sports) and Garbage Pail Kids. The cards are exclusive to International Trading Card Day.
The pack options expand upon the three that were offered last year.
While no purchase Is necessary for the free pack, those who do spend $10 on Topps or Bowman products on August 5 will receive a sixth card from the shop that features Mike Trout.
Those who visit a shop the following Saturday, August 12 and spend another $10 or more will receive an ITCD exclusive Adley Rutschman card.
The packs aren’t free for shops and they can’t pick and choose which packs they receive. The boxes of 100 include:
- 40 MLB Packs
• 20 UEFA Champions League Packs
• 15 Formula 1 Packs
• 15 Bowman U Football Packs
• 5 Athletes Unlimited Packs
• 5 Garbage Pail Kids Packs
In other words, if you want a baseball pack, it’s probably best to get there early—and don’t forget to call your nearest store to make sure they’re participating.
In past years, autographed cards are randomly seeded in some packs.
