Topps Triple Threads has used the same format effectively for years. The 2022 product is no exception, with a wide variety of autographs, relics, combo cards and book cards on tap when the product is released on December 16.
And of course, the combinations of three that give the set its name.
Configuration
A hobby box will contain two packs, with seven cards to a pack. Topps notes that collectors might find one of two pack versions. Each pack will contain three base cards and two parallels. In version 1, there will be a Triple Relic card numbered to 36 or less, and either a Triple Threads Auto Jumbo card numbered to 48 or an Autographed Rookie card numbered to 99 or less. Version 2 will have an Autographed Triple Relic card numbered to 99 or less and a Triple Threads Jumbo Relic card.
Base Set
The base set will be 100 cards and will key on current and past major league stars. There will be a generous number of parallels, with Amethyst, numbered to 299, followed by Emerald (259), Amber (199), Aquamarine (150), Tourmaline (125), Gold (99), Citrine (75), Onyx (50), Sapphire (25) and Ruby (1/1). There will also be 1/1 Printing Plate cards.
Autographs/Auto Relics
While veterans dominate the base sets, rookies are the focus for Triple Threads autograph and auto relic cards. And there are plenty of signature sets.
Rookie Autograph Cards showcase first-year players. The autographed base cards are sequentially numbered and have parallels in Amethyst (75), Emerald (50), Gold (25), Sapphire (10) and Ruby (1/1). There are also 1/1 Printing Plate cards.
Rookie & Future Phenoms Autograph Relic cards have base cards numbered to 99. There are parallels in Amethyst (75), Emerald (50), Gold (35), Onyx (25), Sapphire (10), Ruby (1/1) and Printing Plates (1/1).
Triple Threads Autograph Relic cards are numbered to 27. There are parallels in Amber (18), Gold (9), Sapphire (3), Ruby (1/1), Wood (1/1) and Printing Plates (1/1). The cards are notable because of the die-cut swatches that spell out nicknames and jersey numbers.
Taking the idea a step further, Triple Threads Autograph Relic Combo cards feature three different players on a card, along with signatures and swatches. The base set is numbered to 36, with parallels in Amethyst (27), Emerald (18), Gold (9), Sapphire (3), Ruby (1/1), Wood (1/1) and Printing Plates (1/1).
Two more sets that figure trios into the equation are Common Threads Three-Player Triple Auto Relics and Touch ’Em All Three-Player Auto Relic Cards. The former set makes its debut and specializes in three players who have a shared connection throughout baseball history. The base set is numbered to 9 with parallels in Sapphire (3) and Ruby (1/1).
The Touch ’Em All subset connects power-hitting teammates with signatures and game-used bases. The base set is numbered to 18, with parallels falling in Gold (9), Sapphire (3) and Ruby (1/1).
Cut Above Signature cards are 1/1s that feature a relic and a cut signature. Dual Cut Above Signature cards doubles the pleasure with two relics and a pair of autographs per card.
Triple Threads usually features some interesting book card combinations. Autograph Deca Relic Book cards include one player with a signature and 10 relics. Base cards are numbered to 10, with parallels in Gold (10) and Ruby (1/1). Even scarcer are Deca Autograph Relic Combo Book cards, which feature 10 different players, their signatures and swatches. These cards also have base cards numbered to 10, with a Gold parallel (5) and a 1/1 Ruby parallel.
Another book card is the Jumbo Plus Autograph Relic Book cards (these set names are sure a mouthful). This card features an autograph, two relics and a jumbo patch piece. Base cards are numbered to 3, with a 1/1 Ruby parallel.
Utilizing nameplate letters, Letter Plus Autograph Relic Book cards also includes signatures and a pair of relics. Base cards are numbered to 3 and there is a 1/1 Ruby parallel.
Windows Into Greatness Autograph Relic Book cards feature one player in a three-panel book card. Base cards are numbered to 5 and there are parallels in Gold (3) and Ruby (1/1).
Relic Cards
Like the autograph cards, Triple Threads relic cards cover a diverse group of subjects.
Relic Cards have base cards numbered to 36 and also have parallels in Amethyst (27), Emerald (18), Gold (9), Sapphire (3), and Ruby (1/1).
Relic Legends cards feature some of the game’s greats and have the same parallel configuration as the Relic cards.
Relic Combo cards are also numbered to 36 and have the same parallels and serial numbering.
Single Jumbo Relics have base cards numbered to 48, with parallels in Amethyst (36), Emerald (27), Amber (18), Gold (9), Sapphire (3) and Ruby (1/1).
Windows in Greatness Relic Book and Triple Threads Deca Relic Combo Book cards are numbered to 10 in the base set. Each have parallels in Gold (5) and Ruby (1/1).
Some 1/1 offerings can be found in sets such as Jumbo Letter/Number/Logo Book cards, Bat Nameplate Book cards, Bat Knob Book cards, Buttoned Up cards, Laundry Tag Book cards, Brand Logo cards and Jumbo Patch Combo Book cards.
Jumbo Plus Relic Book cards are numbered to 3 with a 1/1 Ruby parallel, along with Letter Plus Relic Book cards.
All-Star Relics return to Triple Threads in 2022. All-Star Patches have base cards numbered to 9 with a 1/1 Ruby parallel. There are also some 1/1 relic cards, including All-Star Jumbo ASG Patch Book cards, All-Star Jumbo Sleeve Team Patch Book cards, All-Star Laundry Tag Book cards and All-Star Brand Logo Patch cards.
